The name of our contest was Death by Chocolate, but despite that, the whole thing was a blast.
Voting was close — judges had their work cut out for them — but in the end, Cathy, of the blog Not Eating Out in New York, won their hearts with her tale of woe (and chocolate).
Cathy and her guest(s) will join our reader winner, Donna Benjamin, and her guest, in Napa on February 23 for Copia’s “Death by Chocolate” Festival. Both also win a private tour of Charles Chocolates (see special Culinate reader offer below).
We thank everyone who participated in or helped with the contest — the many bloggers who submitted chocolate posts, the judges, the sponsors, and all of the many others who contributed ideas and time.
And we thank you, the readers who entered and voted.
There are only two grand-prize winners in this contest, but fortunately, there’s lots of chocolate to go around.
It’s never to late to impress your sweetheart.
Congratulations to Bay Area locals: Karin, Anita, Donna, Shalaco, and “Goddess” who won tickets to attend the walk around on Saturday

If I were to win the contest, I would bring my darling husband, of course. Before he met me, he swore he only liked white chocolate, which isn’t really chocolate in my opinion. Since we met and got married, I have slowly introduced him to real chocolate in all its splendor, and he would now be the first to tell you that he is (almost) as much of a chocoholic as me!

I’d bring my friend/neighbor who is an amazing chef and fellow chocolate lover. She always shares her Italian chocolates with me :)

I would most certainly bring my chocoholic boyfriend. He’s 6’4” and skinny as a rail, but can put away chocolate like nobody’s business! I once saw him eat 4 individual chocolate-lava cakes over the course of an evening. In fact, this past weekend was his birthday, and he put the chocolate birthday cake on his nightstand along with a fork so that he could take a bite of cake during the middle of the night if he woke up craving it... it was his birthday so I didn’t argue

I would bring my chocoholic girlfriend. She is training to be a paramedic... so after I catch my death of chocolate she can resuscitate me and I can die all over again!

Apologies to my husband, but I would invite a former culinary instructor of mine at City College of San Francisco. He has enspired me to pursue excellence within the culinary world (especially in everything chocolat!) Merci, Mr. Stellman.

I would bring my daughter who is working so hard in nursing school and who’s first complete sentence was “I need something chocolate.” My daughter loves chocolate, and has been learning about artisinal chocolates by reading Caron Golden’s blog, To Market, To Market.

I would invite my friend Jessica. She has come with me to other chocolate events and makes a good companion. Plus, she can’t eat chocolate at the moment, so I’d get all of hers, too. :)

Oh, I would bring a very close friend who I think is the most chocoholic person I have ever met. She has never met a piece of chocolate that wan’t devine.

i’d bring my friend mitzi, not only because of the time that she and i ate most of a salad bowl full of chocolate, strawberries, whipped cream, and amaretti cookies, but also because when we woke up from our chocolate and sugar comas, we polished it off.

You had me at “CHOCOLATE tasting.” I would bring my fiance because we’re both chocoholics (although he loves milk chocolate and I love dark). Even though we’ve had our fair share of different chocolates over the years, I’m pretty certain that we’ll discover a thing or two (or ten!) at the festival. I’m almost DYING here just thinking about what a TASTY experience the Death by Chocolate festival would be like!

My husband, most definitely - he’s a charter member of the “Dark Chocolate Lovers of America”, and we love Copia and being in Napa at this time of year. It would be a delicious thrill!

Hmm...most likely my boyfriend who claims he’s “not that into chocolate” but ends up eating all of mine when i’m not looking. It’s time to prove him wrong once and for all.

I would invite my best friend. We share a common enthusiasm and love for chocolate and everything that uses chocolate. We especially love how chocolate can stand by itself as a complex food/taste.

I love Copia, and I love chocolate, so that’s the perfect combination possible!! :) I’m the type of foodie who loves dreaming about the nuances of chocolate - the warmth, creaminess, spiciness, fruity overtones, and the thick coating of the warming chocolate over my tongue. My bf and partner-in-crime ever since we met at a New Year’s Eve party just over two years ago, has a much more straightforward binary analysis of flavors - he either likes it or he doesn’t, but we love to have discussions on everything food-related. We especially love high-quality hot chocolates, nutella (almost chocolate!) melting out of grilled, buttered bread slices, and touring chocolate factories like Scharffen-berger. “Death by Chocolate” at Copia sounds like a blast!
