Befuddled by farmers and gardens

How far can farmers’ markets and victory gardens really go?

On his blog, Bitten, Mark Bittman passes on a concern from a reader about whether farmers actually know anything about what they’re selling at the market. And, yes, he’s also cottoned on to the whole victory-garden movement. Bittman’s quick verdicts: Be careful who you ask for advice at farmers’ markets, and don’t be too sure that a victory garden will reform our food system.
