Last week in his New York Times’ Minimalist column, Mark Bittman wrote about citrus salsa and red snapper. True, the recipe looked delicious, but as you may know if you’re a savvy seafood shopper, red snapper is a fish to avoid because of overfishing, according to the Environmental Defense Fund and others. Over at Grist, Tom Philpott respectfully called out Bittman, who in turn took time for a reply in the comments section; the discussion is worth a look. Want more talk on the subject? Today, the Times’ Green Inc. blog has taken up the topic, too.

It’s probably tough for Bittman to keep track of everything scrolling across his various media endeavors. In his Bitten blog alone, for example, he recently wrote about how salmon is endangered, while his producer Emily Weinstein wrote about how to make gravlax with salmon. Oh, well.
