Citrus growers fight bacterial infection

Anybody who’s ever tried to garden knows that it’s a jungle out there. After the ongoing bad news about honey bees and bananas, here comes the latest in the agricultural wars: a rampaging bacterial infection in citrus plants in Florida. Even with serious pesticides, farmers are at a loss and, like the banana folks, are considering developing GMO citrus as a solution.

I am no scientist, but I know a little bit of genetics to know that this could very well be a consequence of pesticide overuse. I’m bummed.
