If you haven’t come across the food-demographic project titled "The Color of Food," you’re in for an interesting mashup. Put together by a racial-justice nonprofit with the bland title of The Applied Research Center (ARC), the study aims to “map out the race, gender and class of workers along the supply chain.”

Overall, the conclusions aren’t surprising, as racial and gender distribution among food workers parallels that of the economy at large. The one big difference? People of color make up more than half of the nation’s 20 million food workers in certain areas, such as food production and farm work.
