Most national farm news these days revolves around the Congressional supercommittee and its failed efforts to reduce the federal deficit, including slashes at the Farm Bill.
But other farm-related stories have popped up in the press lately, ranging from the depressing (a report on the financial and practical obstacles facing young farmers across the country) to the surprisingly positive (a report on the astonishing growth in local-food production) to the downright weird (a lawsuit filed on behalf of prison inmates who are complaining about being fed too many processed soy products).
Most fun? A cartoon video, posted by Food & Water Watch, titled "Who Will Be The Biggest Farm Bill Loser?" The video — an amusing spoof of the popular weight-loss reality show "The Biggest Loser" — pits “the American consumer” against farmers and “corporate fat cats.” Hm, who do you think will win?
