Fruit juice, say some experts, is not really any better for you than soda pop. According to a recent story in the Los Angeles Times, juice may be nothing more than "soda in disguise." The problem? Fruit juice is basically fructose, or fruit sugar, without the benefits of eating fresh fruit, such as fiber. As the article points out, “a single glass of apple juice has the fructose of six apples.” But what are the nation’s schools to do, having tried to replace soda with juice? As one of the doctors in the article said, “It’s such a normal part of the American diet. A glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice for breakfast, my goodness!”

“Its such a normal part of the American diet.” Hey, doc! So’s obesity. One possible solution: Just give the kid a piece of fruit and a glass of water.
