Fernald is the former program director of the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity in Italy and the former Community Food Systems Program Director at the Community Alliance with Family Farmers in California.
The founder of a food-consulting company titled Live Culture, she also organized Slow Food Nation in 2008 and founded the Eat Real Festival. She is currently the CEO of the Belcampo Meat Company, a California-based business that raises, slaughters, butchers, and sells humanely produced meat.
