Agree with the earlier comment--food that can be served at varying temperatures is key. I also have lots of fresh veggies and fruit for snacking. Beautiful grapes cut into small clusters. Stacked clementines. Scrubbed carrots and radishes from the farmers market.
I also like several serving stations instead of one to help circulation.
Hmmmm...a pot of Nam Lanh tea, a bowl of Special K and local lowfat organic milk, a cup of local cider. Lunch: leftover rice heated with local cheddar cheese served with probably the last fresh salsa of the tomato season. Dinner: meatloaf from grass-fed, pastured beef and pork, roasted New York State potatoes and brocolli from our CSA with a glass of seltzer. Snacks...dates with peanut butter and a handful of peanut m&ms.
Here is what we are expecting:
--vegetable and herb plants (Buhrmaster’s Farm, Native Farm Flowers, Barber’s Farm and others)
--gorgeous hanging baskets—perfect for Mother’s Day! (Barber’s Farm and others)
--beets with greens that are sweeter than chard
--rhubarb (Cornell Farm, Windy Willow Farm and others)
--early radishes (Cornell Farm, Migliorelli’s Farm, and others)
--scallions (Native Farm Flowers)
--pullet eggs—the first eggs from a hen less than one year old (Cooper’s Ark Farm)
--this is a great time for greens--especially spinach
--asparagus (Pixie’s Preserves by Petuske’s Produce, Buhrmaster Family Farm and Migliorelli Farm)
Come celebrate Mother’s Day at the market. Find the perfect gift for mom:
--Spectacular hanging baskets.
--Delicious tarts from Dutch Desserts.
--How about wine, cheese and a loaf of crusty bread? Wine from Cascade or Hudson-Chatham Winery. Delicious cheese from Argyle Cheese Farmer, Palatine Cheese, Dancing Ewe Farm or Painted Goat Farm. Fresh bread from Our Daily Bread or The Placid Baker.
Meat at the market is new to some folks. Our vendors offer some of the highest quality meat you can find anywhere. Sweet Tree Farm raises grass-fed beef, pastured pork and pastured chicken. Mariaville Angus has grass-raised, grain finished beef. All of these animals are humanely raised, traceable (you will buy directly from the farmer) and local, local, local! (Mariaville Angus is right here in Schenectady County.)
