My apologies. I thought I had cross-posted this announcement.
With great regret, the last market session for Multnomah Village Farmers Market was held on July 9, 2009. Simply put, sales were not high enough for the farmers and food vendors to cover their expenses. We were also unable to attract vegetable farmers, limiting the variety of produce available for customers.
Below is a list of the vendors and other markets they attend:
Draper Girls Farm – Portland-PSU (Saturday), Hillsdale (Sunday)
Graceful Blades – Tigard (Sunday)
Greenville Farms – OHSU, Lloyd (Tuesday), Hillsdale (Sunday)
Herr Family Farm – Jantzen Beach (Monday), Interstate (Wednesday),
Hollywood (Saturday), Hillsdale (Sunday)
Unger Farm – Lloyd (Tuesday), Portland, Beaverton, Forest Grove,
Interstate (Wednesday), Eastbank, McMinnville (Thursday), Beaverton,
Hillsboro, Hollywood, Parkrose, Portland-PSU (Saturday), Hillsdale,
Orenco Station, Tigard (Sunday)
Missionary Chocolates – Interstate (Wednesday)
Wandering Aengus Ciderworks – Beaverton Hollywood, Portland-PSU
(Saturday), Portland-King (Sunday)
Savory et Sweet – Lloyd (Tuesday), Hillsdale (Sunday)
Nature’s Choice – Lloyd (Tuesday), Camas (Wednesday), Vancouver (Saturday)
The Honey Pot – Moreland (Wednesday), Sherwood (Saturday)
Red Dragon Nursery – Beaverton (Saturday)
Once the summer market season is over, we will talk to farmers and
determine whether or not a market in Multnomah Village might work for
them. We will be asking if different days or different times or both
will be more beneficial. Thank you to all the customers who did come
to the market.

This week is the last market of the 2008 season. Thank you all for your support.
Fall entered with rain at the beginning of the week. The abrupt change in weather has hastened the end of the harvest for blackberries and raspberries. A few pints may make their way to the market this week. If you see some, buy them for it will be the last local berries until next year. On the other hand, the apple and pear harvest is in full swing. Draper Girls and Stephens Farm will both have cider as well as the fruit. You will also find fall crops like broccoli, kale, beets and chard. Tomatoes and corn will still be around if you’re not quite ready to a fall menu.

There’s only two weeks left for the 2008 market season at Multnomah Village. Thank you all for your support. The Voyagers will be playing one more time this season. Ann Carstenson will be back with her shiatsu massage chair and Bill is back with his knife sharpening van. The weather made the start of the season a rough one but the late summer harvest has been great. The tree fruit harvest has been very good and you’ll continue to find many varieties of peaches, nectarines and plums along with the apples and pears. The weather continues to be kind to blackberries as well.
Graceful Blades returns this week. The extended summer weather makes this a good time to plant. You can get a good jump on next season if you plant now. Stop by Grace’s booth and ask her for ideas.

With school starting in seven days or less, this week is the last week of summer. Well at least in the eyes of many children including my own.
There is a lot of good produce coming into the market this week. The apple harvest has begun and the new apples are coming in. Peaches are still quite plentiful as are nectarines. Corn, a summer favorite, is plentiful. Green beans and pole beans in general are another popular summer vegetable. Sulina and Bay’s Farm is coming back this week with a wide variety of pole beans including cranberry beans, green beans, romano beans, long beans and french filet beans. For the pesto loving crowd, basil should be readily available as well. And let’s not forget prepared foods. Hot Mama Salsa came back to the market with their salsas and chips. Nikki is coming back with more product this week and hopefully won’t sell out as quickly. Here is the list of vendors and expected availability list.

See you at the market!
What a difference one week makes. Last week, it was nearly 100 degrees. This week it’s 30 degrees cooler. The hot weather took its toll though. The berry harvest will be lighter; strawberries, some blueberries and maybe blackberries. Unger Farms should have another crop of raspberries coming in a few weeks. Peaches will be readily available. Apricots, cherries and nectarines should be available as well. The new apple crop started coming in last week. You should find Gravenstein and Ginger Gold apples readily available.
As for vegetables, corn and green beans are quite plentiful. Greenville Farms brought quite a bit of corn last week and still sold out. They are bringing more this week. A new farm, Sulina & Bay’s Farm, joins the market this week. Sulina has a wide variety of lettuces, many kinds of pole beans, fresh garlic, bunched carrots and beets, mint, basil, tarragon, onions, and a lot more. Stop by her stall and say hello.
