It's been a sad summer for tomatoes - only a few left, still green, on dying vines. However, the apples and pears are wonderful. Cortland, an old variety, and a pear called "Spartlet" were delicious. Also all kinds of pumpkins, and lovely little rose and purple potatoes.

I'm also seeing lots of cucumbers, different kinds. Culinate has a good recipe from Deborah Madison- http://www.culinate.com/columns/deborah/cucumber_and_red_quinoa_soup Save out one cuke to dice and mix in after its been puree-d. Otherwise, as she says, it's just a smoothie!

Muskmelons -- huge and sweet and delicious. And stinky! The Amish family at the market has been bringing them in.

Gooseberries! I always thought they were green, but they ripen to a purple grape color. The seller (Native Gardens) says she hates picking them, the plants are so thorny. But the berries are delicious.

One warning, the city website lists the location as Scidmore Park, and list Scidmore Park's entrance as Spring Street. If you go to Spring Street you will be unable to drive to the Farmer's Market, as it is on the other side of the Rocky River! Instead, continue east on West Michigan Avenue to the entrance, which is just past Neff's Flower shop.

Best local organic vegetables! Also produce, jellies, and baked goods from local Amish farms. The city has built a permanent pavilion structure to house the Farmers' Market.
