In northwest Oregon, the Fruit Loop isn’t a cereal, it’s a scenic drive through the orchards surrounding Mount Hood. The Hood River County Fruit Loop website lists the websites of several area farms; click on any to check out local cherries, pears, and apples, as well as preserves, nuts, and wines.
Oregon’s wine regions may not be as old as California’s, but they’re doing just fine. The state is known for its pinots, including those sold by Domaine Drouhin, Montinore, Ankeny Vineyard, and King Estate.
Oregon’s beer gets a lot of press, but its coffee’s not bad either. Local Portland favorite Stumptown Coffee roasts its own beans and sells them to coffeeshops around town; you can also order it online by the pound.
Eugene’s MycoLogical Wild Products sells fresh mushrooms, but it’s the company’s dried mushrooms you’re most likely to see packaged for sale in grocery stores. MycoLogical sells mushrooms both solo and mixed, including porcini, morels, matsutakes, and chanterelles.

Oregon: Ayers Creek Farm jams and organic, farm-ground polenta. Ancient Heritage Dairy cheeses, particularly Valentine. Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) IPA. And too much more to mention. We’re so lucky!

In Oregon think hazelnuts!! Ninety nine percent of hazelnuts in the US are grown in Oregon. Hazelnuts are considered an Oregon specialty. The Oregon hazelnut commission has identified Freddy Guys Hazelnuts as the processor of highest quality. They are family owned and operated and pay attention to detail.

To get the freshest local produce in the Portland Metro area, check out oregonfarmersmarkets.org and portlandcsa.org. For true, pasture raised chickens, we recommend DeoVolente Farm. And finally, we love B and B Grass-Fed Beef Ranch which they sell at the Oregon City farmer’s market.

Another place for great pasture-raised chicken is Kookoolan Farms, available at New Seasons markets and at Hillsdale Farmers’ Market.
