Win “Heirloom Beans” and Christmas Lima beans

A bean toolkit including recipes

December 4, 2008

Jack had it right all along: Beans are magical. And like Jack, more of us around here are trading cows — or at least beef — for beans. We love the versatility of beans, and the varieties, and we like learning new tricks about how to prepare them deliciously. That’s why we’re thrilled to learn about Steve Sando’s new book, Heirloom Beans.

Christmas Limas, recipes, Rancho Gordo

Who’s Steve Sando? As the proprietor behind Rancho Gordo, Steve is a giant among bean growers, especially heirloom bean growers. Steve knows his beans.

This week we’re giving away a copy of Heirloom Beans and a gift pack of Christmas Lima Beans from Rancho Gordo (pictured here), to each of three lucky readers.

To win a copy, all you have to do is leave a comment before noon PST on Monday, December 8, 2008, on any one of the three recipes featured below:

This drawing has closed. Congratulations to Chrysa, Angie, and Francine who all won a copy of the cookbook and the Christmas Limas thanks to Chronicle Books and Rancho Gordo.

Good luck to all!

All eligible winners must have mailing addresses in the U.S. or Canada.
Winners are selected from all valid entrants and will be announced on this page once selected and confirmed. Please note that all standard Culinate contest rules apply to this drawing.

The recipe with the barlotti beans with tomato sauce on polenta is the one for me. I love polenta and this sounds great. Only thing is whether I will be able to get barlotti beans or have to substitute.

Borlotti Beans in Tomato Sauce with Creamy Polenta sounds hardy and great for the cold winter evenings.
