Hot Chocolate with Caramel and Cinnamon

From the collection
Serves 8
Total Time 20 minutes

Introduction

This drink is a flavored twist on Hot Chocolate with a Milk Base from Chuck Siegel of Charles Chocolates.

Ingredients

8 cups whole milk
1 cup water
1⅓ cups sugar
1 cinnamon stick
16 oz. bittersweet chocolate (70 percent cacao), chopped

Steps

  1. In a large saucepan, bring milk, water, and sugar to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, heat the sugar with the cinnamon stick until the sugar is dark amber.
  3. Add the milk-and-water mixture to the sugar-and-cinnamon mixture. Stir over low heat until smooth. Add the chocolate and whisk over medium heat until just boiling.
  4. Use an immersion blender (or a regular blender with a dishtowel held tightly over the blender lid) to froth the liquid for one minute. Serve in small mugs.

My favorite memory would be sitting around a camfire sipping cocoa with my grandpa learning life lessons.

whenever i go camping with my friends, we always have a cup of hot chocolate on the first and last days of our trip, it’s so cold out there and the hot chocolate helps us warm up before we got to sleep!

I fondly remember having hot chocolate one days we got to stay house from school because of too much snow.

I love dropping in the marshmallow and letting it melt while holding the mug to warm my hands after a cold day outside.

I remember the first time I had Mexican hot chocolate, when I was in grade school. I made my mom take me to the Mexican grocery store after school to get some more!

This recipe sounds really yummy and it reminds me all the hot cocoa days from my youth after sledding.

This one sounds especially delicious! I’ve only had regular hot chocolate thus far. My mom used to have big steaming mugs of hot cocoa ready for us every single time after we went outside to play in the snow in the wintertime when we were kids.

When I was little, I used to eat a packet of hot chocolate powder without the milk... kinda gross, but little kids eat gross stuff :)

My favorite hot chocolate memory is when I was little my mom would make hot chocolate and we were allowed to put as many mini marshmallows in our cup as we wanted. I loved to drink a little then keep adding more marshmallows.

One of my favorite hot chocolate memories is a childhood one when my dad made us hot chocolate and baked pork rinds on a rainy day and our family worked on a jigsaw puzzle together.

I love my hot chocolate with a bit of spice added. I remember as a kid my mom making hot chocolate and pastries on a snowy evening while my sister and I watched The Secret Garden. It is one of my favorite memories!
