Michael Pollan is brilliant and I love the Rombauer sisters. Julia Child on her Thanksgiving special when she dropped the cooked turkey on the floor, picked it up, put it on the platter and advised us to "Remember, you're alone in the kitchen!" Iron Chef is pretty inspiring - especially Flay and Batali

I made this with buttermilk and it came out with a strange, grainy texture. It set up beautifully tho so I’ll try it again with just cream.
I made these and had to guesstimate the 1 oz cookie scoop by doing a very heaping tablespoon. They were very undercooked so I had to put them back in.
This is the first batch of cookies that I didn’t give away because I liked them so much. They turned out very soft and almost muffinlike, as aviva said. But I liked that. They’re very pumpkin-y and spicy and the chocolate makes them super delish.
I’m going to try them again with a touch less flour and more baking time initially.
Yay for fulfilling your fantasy! (better late than never - just like my holiday cards that went in the mail on christmas eve!)
Wonderful story - I might try this one next year - I too have never made anything with a jelly roll but have always been curious (and intimidated!) about it’s use especially with cloth!
Thank you for the inspiration!
