New to Culinate! Just caught the tail end of Table Talk while looking for a simple pickling recipe. Ok---A canning memory: My first canning experience took place last week in my kitchen. My mother was visiting and wanted to teach me the ropes. Since I have been researching all the wonderful books and different recipes for months now, I was excited to share some new ideas. (Shake up some of that midwest tradition.) I insisted we try a jelly from Edon Wolcott’s Preserving the Taste or the wined cherries from Eugenia Bone’s Well Preserved. But she didn’t budge! We cooked and canned the same salsa recipe I have been consuming as a child. And we both had so much fun. Which became a lesson well learned. You can’t teach your mother new tricks!
