Earlier this summer, while I was traveling Northern India, I was surprised at the eating habits. It seemed that rather than having a deliberate breakfast-lunch-dinner schedule, there was an early breakfast, a morning snack, a light lunch, an afternoon tea, and a late dinner. The first few weeks I was there, it was hard for me to adjust from my usual 3 hearty meals, but I ended up loving eating more spread out... it gives you more time to enjoy & digest, and I’m thinking about starting up a regular five meal schedule.
My mom made me a lemon buttermilk milkshake when I got home yesterday.... DELIGHTFUL!
I’ve spent the past three weeks in India, and now, home, I’d like to hopefully be able to integrate more spices and indian cooking techniques into the food i make.
A few of my favorite dishes from the trip include:
Dal Makhani
Tandoori Chicken
Chloe bhature
Uttapam
Veg Kolhapuri
A play on a typical Lassi drink, I created a delicious “Vanilla” Lassi from:
1 cup whole vanilla yogurt
1 cup ice cubes
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
blend until foamy, add spices (tastes great with a pinch of cinnamon!)
aka rooster sauce. It makes everything taste better, or at least more fiery. I’m going to try this millet dish. Thanks!
Need an easy on-the-go breakfast idea? Pink Martini’s main singer China Forbes spills the details on a delicious Quinoa-based dish: recipe for quinoa with avacado
Lets discuss thanksgiving. Highlights? Low-lights? for me the mashed potatoes were a huge hit. A miss would have to have been the overly buttered and baked casserole dish my mom put together. I was literally counting the carbs by 100s as i took each bite! Haha, i would love to hear about the rest of you.
3 scoops vanilla icecream
2 tbsp. creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup groudn chocolate chips
1/3 cup 2% milk
blend blend blend
This makes a fabulously easy and delicious chocolate peanut butter milkshake!
Every september, since the tragic 9/11 accident, a group of me and my girlfriends get together and bake all afternoon to honor the families of the tragic NYC disaster. This evening, we frosted three cakes, baked five sheets of peanut butter cookies and decorated a lattice on two blackberry pies, and one rhubarb tart. The gesture is small, but all five of us have had relations who died in the accident, to it mean a lots for us to all be together on this special afternoon. . . recipes were all from Culinate
My daughter has one of those spring colds that has been going around the class. I fixed her up with a nice cup of:
one lemon
one tbsp honey
water as hot as she can drink it
.the panacea for the sore-throat!
I had a kiwi, this evening, which my daughtor sourly discarded to the side of her plate. I stole it, and swear I have never tasted anything so sweet.
My step-mom stopped by last weekend, and we attempted a layer cake. the ingredients were all out and then we lost the recipe! We ended up using lots of substitutions and it took about four hours! GOOD NEWS: kids and husband liked it:)
Yummy ginger chicken for dinner. Kids and hubby and all relatives loved it. I am proud to be a giner-chicken-cooking LA mother!
