I don't disapprove of 'hip'. I just don't hear it used a lot these days, especially by someone who appears to be as young as you. Maybe it's coming back! I think I'd better read your blogs.

    commented on Stemless wine glasses?.

Glad the topic has stirred some debate. Not surprising - the topic of wine stemware tends to do that. It’s amazing how much research has gone into making glasses made specifically for a varietal (and now terroir specific like Oregon Pinot Noir vs. Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir) and then both proving and disproving whether it actually makes a difference.

One of the wonderful things about wine is the passionate response it evokes.

    Thanks,
    Anu (Swirl column writer)

Hey there, Anu. I was wondering what you would recommend I pair with roasted vegetables ... I was thinking because there will be a fair amount of tomatoes and peppers in the mix, I'd do a Merlot. I'd love to find a nice red. I'm thinking a Sangiovese possibly or a Boujoulais. I'm also roasting pears and shallots with Manchego, and was going to pair that with a sweet white Rioja. Thoughts? Recommendations? Many thanks for your help! I REALLY need a second opinion. It's for my friend's birthday party I'm helping cook for. And the group always calls me the "wine-o".

First, I need an invite to one of your dinner parties! Sounds like a feast. What about a nice Crianza style Rioja? A light bodied tempranillo might be really nice. Or something from Corbieres could be well suited and affordable since you’ll have to buy multiple bottles. Another option is a medium bodied Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, Oregon. Montinore is a nice estate. If there is a wine shop you regularly shop at that has a website, I can look at specific bottles. For the roasted pears w/Manchego - How about a late harvest Viognier from California or an a Spatlese style Riesling from Germany or even a Gewurtraminer from Washington State? Again, if I have a website, I can make specific recommendations. You have very lucky friends : )

Thanks for all your lovely recommendations! Everything sounds great and I did buy a Reisling for the pears ... Great idea. My friend also contributed some bottles, so I kind of have to work with what she has as well ... anyway, again, many thanks for your help!!
