The best cookbook I have ever received as a gift is the “Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook” which I got as a birthday present from my lovely boyfriend. GHIC is the cookbook I grew up with, almost every recipe that I cherished as a child came right out of GHIC. My mother’s copy is from the early eighties and today is crusted with flour from the recipe for homemade noodles and dotted with beef stew splatter. Years later nearly everytime I am home with my mother we break out the spineless book and create amazing homemade meals. As such a valuable resource and important memento from my youth, I was delighted when my boyfriend was able to find an equally as ancient copy at a flee market. Now I can crack it open whenever I am nostalgic for a taste of home and look forward to sharing the recipes with my own daughter one day.
