Reading “Ham,” by Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough. A very fun cookbook and vastly entertaining read. Highly recommended!
looking forward to lots of great seafood, and other yummy goodies.
It’s chilly here today, and it just seemed like the right thing to do...
A piece about Denver Urban Gardening project. http://cbs4denver.com/consumer/gardening.food.groceries.2.990831.html
Yeah, I know. We’re not supposed to do that. But my 11 o’clock appointment was cancelled at the last minute today because of a MAX train mishap, so I went to the super-mega-mart and found myself drifting along in front of the antipasti and olives counter... Loaded up a large container with layers of lovely marinated and pickled vegetables, cheeses, dolmades, olives, roasted garlic, etc., then picked up a boule of sourdough. Went to the park and had a lovely lunch in the sunshine. And have plenty of ideas on how to use the rest of the boule... So it wasn’t such a bad thing to shop on an empty stomach TODAY -- although it sure didn’t fit me into the $10 a week thing!!!
My nephew and his wife took me to a place called Wine House in Norfolk, VA last December. We all shared a “White Cheese Plate” that had a varietyof cheeses, a couple of which were drizzled with basalmic glaze. Ooooh! YUM!!!
Also dying to “hear” the results on Kim’s cookies...
Thanks for that. And the news IS encouraging! Because I have to agree with TeasIsFun: not many of us ask for added chemicals in our food!
The following item came across my desk a couple days ago, and it both frustrates and infuriates me: “The Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) has a bone to pick with Michelle Obama. MACA represents chemical companies that produce pesticides, and they are angry that - wait for it - Michelle Obama isn’t using chemicals in her organic garden at the White House. I am not making this up. In an email they forwarded to their supporters, a MACA spokesman wrote http://www.lavidalocavore.org/showDiary.do?diaryId=1309 , ‘While a garden is a great idea, the thought of it being organic made us shudder.’ MACA went on to publish a letter it had sent to the First Lady asking her to consider using chemicals -- or what they call ‘crop protection products’ -- in her garden. " I think this is totally nuts!!!
