The French-born Pépin grew up cooking (his parents owned a restaurant) and he began formal training as a chef at age 13. After an illustrious career (he was personal chef to French war hero and president Charles de Gaulle), Pépin moved to the U.S., where he achieved renown as a chef, consultant, columnist, cookbook author, memoir writer, teacher, and television host (including nine series on public television). He and his wife, Gloria, live in Madison, Connecticut.
