Thanks for all the comments! I find myself craving savory foods more and more in the morning, and am just sitting down now to a bowl (again) of Bittman’s Coconut Oat Pilaf. I seriously cannot get enough of it!!
Glad I got people thinking!

Great article! Taking note of cravings can also help identify deficiencies in our diets, or can be indicators of our bodies being out of whack. Candida overgrowth, for example, can lead to intense sugar cravings, exascerbating the problem. Learning to hear, and then identify what our bodies are craving, and why, is a major key to eating well, as well as taking control of weight issues.

This looks amazing! I’ll just have to fit the 20 hour resting time into my weekend plans. This sounds like a perfect way to start a Saturday AND a Sunday. I have sorghum syrup on hand, and am going to give that a try... similar taste to molasses, minus the slightly bitter taste.

I also bag vegetable scraps for broth! Leek tops, onion trimmings, etc.
As for the freezing of the breadcrumbs, I honestly don’t know why I do it, since I guess they are technically shelf stable. But I do feel better about keeping fresh stuff like that in the freezer.
The log of tomato paste totally works for me. I have two icecube trays in my freezer that I often use for freezing cubes of pesto, or other potent sauces/reductions. I can just throw a cube in and don’t have to worry about scraping frozen pesto from a container like rock hard ice-cream!
