Cross Creek Cookery, by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. I’m almost afraid to touch it because it’s a first edition, but I do anyway, and just love all the history behind the recipes. To me, a cookbook without some background to the recipes is just another list of formulas. I need to know what made the recipe special enough to be written down.
