I’m making a lasagna tonight for this weekend—I’m bringing up to a cabin in the mountains. Question is: should I bake it now, and reheat it this weekend? Or, assemble it without baking it? I’m worried that if I do the latter, the sauce may leak out on our drive up. Thoughts?
I just attempted to make strawberry buttercream frosting. I even followed a recipe. And the frosting curdled! what gives? any ideas?
BRILLIANT!!! RT @culinate: crab cakes! RT @fritters: Need a dinner idea. What are y’all cooking? I need inspiration. @mydogischelsea
What are y’all cooking? I’m feeling adventurous tonight and need some inspiration...
Portland (OR) folk: do you have any recommendations on a restaurant to take my visiting uncle to for Thanksgiving? I’d rather cook a turkey myself, but since he’s never been to Portland, he wants to eat out. Sadly, Higgins is already booked solid. Where should I bring him? Oh, and he’s paying. =D
And it didn’t involve pasta! Used up CSA veggies: cipollini onion, light green chard, delicious basil. Added a tomato from the garden and some chicken sausages. Served over polenta with parmesan cheese. Man, I missed my kitchen.
Check it out: A round-up of sustainable food blogs on Mark Bittman’s blog, written by the editor of Civileats. Yay!
And why is he all keen on recommending people? Anyway, I made a (frozen) pea risotto tonight with brocoli raab on the side. Thinking about whipping up a batch of chocolate chip cookies for dessert...
Last night I tried the recipe in the latest Cook’s Illustrated for their “15-minute” tomato sauce from canned tomatoes. (I subbed parsley for the basil). Verdict? Decent for a quick sauce but frankly, your standard 2-hour tomato sauce is much better. Plus, “15 minutes” was more like “45.”
Lunch: Sandwich on delicious nut bread a coworker brought in. Lime-cilantro vin., avocado, honey-soy-balsamic marinated tofu.
Have you guys heard of @cookbook? Recipes in 140 characters!
Why would an organic garden make anyone “shudder”?! like, “Ooh, scary! food that is good for you and the planet!” Anyway. Just had mac & cheese at Report on Burnside. Quite delish.
It’s too late. I’ll stop by the grocery store in the AM and by some fruit.
I have to whip together a dessert to bring to a potluck at work tomorrow—I completely forgot about it. It has to be something that would be good when dipped in chocolate (what isn’t?). Problem is, I have about 1/2 stick of butter on hand and no cream. I might have some shortening though. Any ideas? (I do have chocolate.)
sauteed garlic shrimp, a mango-avocado salsa and red cabbage. And rice and black beans. Not local at all... but so good. Only complaint: the grocery store was out of the good corn tortillas, and the ones I had to buy don’t hold a candle to my normal brand. Of course, they only came in a 5 pound bag!!!
It got cold and rainy again here. So, soup’s for dinner! Just tossed some leeks, carrots and potatoes (all from the farmer’s market) into the stock pot. I think it will be yummy...
