Fresh from the Farmers’ Market by rosewx12 on Mar 17, 2009 at 6:22 PM PDT
Specifically baby boc choy. We eat it raw dipped in homemade dill, smoked paprika dressing. Yum!
Generally I’m looking forward to a safe source of fruits/vegis for my daughter who’s allergic to all those corn based waxes in the grocery store.

Hmm, I may have to try again using these recipes. My last attempt at sour dough was VERY sour and rather dense.
Whipped Garnet Yams with a Pecan Praline Crust by rosewx12 on Nov 8, 2008 at 8:32 AM PST
Oh yum! The best part of pumpkin pie with the best part of pecan pie. Bookmarking for Tday!

Beautifully put! I don’t know of a word for it but I think I feel the spirit of what you are trying to say. There needs to be honor given back to the art of home and land. I remember after I decided to stay home instead of work. Someone asked me when I was going back to my real job. Like somehow there was more value in me sitting in an office all day then raising a child, growing a garden, feeding a family. Like somehow I was doing less and contributing less. In reality this is the first time I’ve really felt connected with my life.
Who feeds the kids? by rosewx12 on Mar 7, 2008 at 3:32 PM PST
Great article! I’ve been enjoying the articles on kids and food lately. It is so so important to get the younger generation on the right track. Kids should be cooking with their parents as soon as they are old enough to stand up and dump something vaguely near the mixing bowl. My daughter actually eats a good portion of her daily vegetables standing next to me at the counter and munching on things as I prep them. Last night, between the two of us, we ate all the leaves from the top of the bokchoy.
The Macaroni Syndrome by rosewx12 on Mar 2, 2008 at 12:31 PM PST
So true! My 2 year old loves grabbing whole apples from the fruit bowl or a handful of Kale out of the garden. She adores fries but that doesn’t mean she gets to live off them. They are an occasional treat when eating out. We tried to incorporate her into eating what we eat from a very young age and it seriously paid off. Not only does she eat healthier... but we do to. :)
Say yes to real food by rosewx12 on Feb 8, 2008 at 10:13 AM PST
Yum and yeah! :) I think it’s so sad that people have been made to be afraid of real food. I’m glad I can finally get over the guilt of “healthy eating” and enjoy stuff like pot pie. (Btw... I love to slowly render any big globs of fat cut off the chicken with diced onions and then use that as the fat to make a biscuit topping.)
Norman Cheese and Apple Fondue by rosewx12 on Jan 18, 2008 at 3:42 PM PST
Yum! I haven’t made fondue in ages and used to make it all the time. I bet my 2 year old would LOVE it.
Life outside the corn kingdom by rosewx12 on Nov 19, 2007 at 6:59 AM PST
Thank you for the mention of those of us who are forced to go corn free. :) My 2 year old is up all night bouncing off the walls followed by digestive distress if I even feed her a peeled wax (corn) covered apple. Even the trace scraped in during peeling is too much for her. Sometimes I feel a little crazy making hand made tortilla’s just so we can have burritos... but it’s a lot better then a sick child. We survive off the farmers market in the summer. I have no clue how we’re going to get her a good balance this winter. (Next year I start canning.)
