Going to the vegan side by susan on Mar 27, 2009 at 4:06 PM PDT
Thank you, Tiffanie! I’ll look into that book. I’ve been hearing so much lately that the Omegas from vegetarian sources are not absorbed well, but I think I need to just do a little more research. There’s algae-derived Omega-3 and that might be a way to go. I want to be sure we’re not depriving our son of brain food! We take B-12 supplements and I read on this website (I think it was Kim’s blog) that nutritional yeast on popcorn is rather tasty, so we may need to give that a try. :) Thank you again.

Terrific article, Tiffanie. My husband and I have been lacto-ovo vegetarians since 1983, and have raised our now 13-year-old son the same way. I’ve considered a move to a vegan diet, but am concerned about Omega-3 and B-12 for our son, in particular, as they are already a worry with a lacto-ovo diet. Do you have any thoughts on that? Thank you again for a super article.

Well. I just purchased Diamond Crystal kosher salt last weekend after reading this column, and I am sold. What a great tip.

Our son is eleven and has been a lacto-ovo vegetarian all his life. This article came at the perfect time, right when he’s beginning to eat like a growing pre-teen. I’ve printed it out and tacked it on the refrigerator for his reference and mine. Thank you!

What a brilliant idea to add this new “Our Table” column. And hearty congratulations on exiting Beta!
