The beauty of vertical gardening by whatscooking on Apr 15, 2009 at 3:02 PM PDT
Your idea of using pantyhose made me laugh - but I appreciate the idea of how I can use the pile of never-worn garmets in my drawer! I am not known for having a green thumb, but am excited about my fledgling garden. This year, I am trying: lettuce, chard, bell peppers, peas, yellow squash, globe eggplant, lemon cucumber, artichoke and herbs. It is a genuine effort - and our kids will love knowing where our food comes from!
Gifts: Donations by whatscooking on Nov 28, 2008 at 10:42 AM PST
I was lucky enough to go on an educator study tour with Heifer International during the summer of 2007. It was an amazing experience and I can speak to the quality of the work they are doing. Lots of our friends and family will be getting animals donated in their name for the holidays! Thanks for linking to them!

Plus, think of all that extra time it takes to cook the stuff you are hiding in the first place. Come on!

And it makes me sad that the wives of famous actors can encourage parents to hide veggies inside of other foods, so that they don’t learn to love the flavors as they were meant to be!
Cooks vs. chefs by whatscooking on Mar 4, 2008 at 7:29 PM PST
Who cares what gender is in the kitchen, as long as they are trying to be in control of the ingredients consumed by their families. This is a great conversation to have - even with our kids and future chefs / parents! Personally, I love nothing more than showing my love for my family than through cooking healthy and “real” food.
Who feeds the kids? by whatscooking on Mar 4, 2008 at 7:26 PM PST
Kim,
This was a wonderfully written article, and right on point. I run my entire business on this exact premise! We teach healthy cooking classes to children and show them the benefits of eating organic, local and sustainably grown foods. Michael Pollan should be required reading for this growing (I am referring to the waist-line!) country of ours! I am so happy I have found this website!
Hold the sandwich by whatscooking on Mar 4, 2008 at 7:18 PM PST
Great ideas, Keri! We have also had lots of success with mini frittatas! My daughter (the picky one in our family) doesn’t even mind a little spinach in hers, as long as there is lots of cheese :-)
